Organic

      In the last years there has been a particular focus on the conversion to organic production of wines in Tuscany. Many wineries visited by Max have decided to convert their wines to organic production. What has been noticed is that there has been a great meeting point between the producers and the great demand of drinking organic wines.

      Max selected a collection of labels that will surprise you because in many cases the wines turn out to be rounder, smoother and less constructed. Many producers, by switching to an organic production, have renewed their offer and in many cases it has been the opportunity to revive and offer more exclusive and less constructed products.

      Organic Farming

      Working in an organic way means following certain cultivation techniques that respect the natural life cycles and minimize the anthropogenic impact. Wanting to summarize in points the rules of organic production, we could identify five most important:

      Crops are rotated, so as to alternate the cultivation of plants that improve the fertility of the soil with others that deplete it; pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, antibiotics and chemicals in general are severely restricted; GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are prohibited;

      the use of on-site resources is strongly accentuated;

      only plant species adapted to a certain environment are cultivated.

      In this way, organic farming can effectively combine productivity and environmental protection and provides food free of toxic residues and rich in flavor, taking advantage of some cultivation techniques such as mulching (which consists in covering the ground with hay or fresh grass to protect it from temperature changes and hinder the growth of weeds) or green manure (ie the sowing of some herbs such as clover, vetch, watercress, lamb's lettuce or spinach that fertilize the soil and protect it from erosion).
